The Historic Texas Cemetery marker dedication was held at 6 p.m. on Saturday evening at the old City Cemetery. Joan Ratliff acted as MC for the event.
Mayor Brett Boren led the Pledge of Allegiance and Melanie Todd sang the National Anthem and Texas, Our Texas.
Ratliff gave an introduction after which Milam County Judge Steve Young read and presented the proclamation.
Lynn Young gave the history of the marker process and Geri Burnett provided information about the early Rockdalians who are buried in the cemetery.
Mayor Boren, City Manager Barbara Holly, Jack Brooks and Rockdale’s favorite historian, Dr. Lucile Estell, unveiled the marker. Holly also read the marker.
After the ceremony, guided tours of the cemetery were given.
