The Matinee Musical Club of Rockdale met at the home of Marie Gest with Lisa Loewe as co-host.
The collect was read and the song of the month, “A Beautiful Life” by William Golden, was sung, accompanied by Lisa Loewe.
Loewe read the poem of the month, “Speak Gently” by David Bates. Poetry is a new addition to our monthly meeting.
The minutes of the September meeting were read and the treasurer’s report was submitted by Gloria Walker and old business and new business was discussed.
The program was presented by Victoria Everett StJohn and was titled “Joy to Life” and began with Victoria singing the Lynn Anderson 1970’s hit, “Rose Garden.”
Asowyn Gowers sang and played the ukulele and performed the Disney song “Lava.”
Mar ie Gest played “Blessed Assurance” on the piano and the club all sang along.
The next song was the White Snake tune, “Here I Go Again,” performed by the bluegrass group, “Picking and Singing.”
StJohn then sang “Joy to Life” by Alexa Sunshine Rose.
Walker read the poem, “On Children” by Kahlil Gibran.
The group watched a video of the Southern Gospel Revival performance of “Ain’t No Grave.”
Gowers then sang and played “Gethsemane” by Jake Hansen.
The club sang “It Is Well” by Horatio Stafford and Philip Bliss accompanied by Loewe on the piano.
The traditional closing hymn was, “The Gift of Song.”
Matinee Musical is a member of the Texas and National Federation of Music Clubs.
