The Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD) is considering establishing a program, or programs, to assist local businesses.

Meeting in regular session Monday in the MDD offices, directors scheduled a Dec. 18 workshop to discuss what kind of form any new programs might take.

The MDD had formerly offered rent assistance and facade improvement programs to help businesses, but suspended them last year.

Beginning in January, the MDD will begin collecting a telecommunications tax and will pursue ideas on how to aid businesses.

(It’s not a new tax and won’t increase anyone’s bills. Beginning January, the tax will be available for local use).

Kara Clore, MDD executive director, said she will approach the Rock-dale Downtown Association (RDA) for input on how the new programs should be structured.

In other business, the MDD accepted its annual audit and discussed “vision and priorities.”
