MDD Director of Economic Development director brought Dean Barber with Barber Business Advisors to Rockdale to do double-duty including checking out a site for a proposed new industrial park at US 77 and US 79, as well as having a lunch-andlearn about site selection to interested members of the community.

Barber told the audience Rockdale does have good things going for it like having lots of potential industrial property, good access in all directions and proximity to Austin, Temple/Waco and College Station.

“Rockdale does need some help in the looks department because first impressions matter,” Barber said. “And how a city looks is involved in decision making when companies are looking to expand.”

Barber said both the city and the MDD should be more aggressive with blight ordinances, which is already in the works thanks to the city council.

Taking small, incremental steps like tearing down abandoned houses will go a long way in how Rockdale looks to newcomers scouting the area.
