At Monday night’s MDD board of directors meeting a vote to extend the façade grants for East Bell Taphouse and the Christian Information Book Store was granted unanimously. Each business needs only a few more months to finish their final touches.

The board introduced Julie Craft as new MDD secretary who replaces Shanna Johnson who is now the new city secretary. ( The Reporter hopes to introduce her in next week’s paper.)

Since Alan Miller’s resignation as board president, new officers were installed with a few changes. Nathan Bland is now president, John King is vice president, Jason Barcak continues as treasurer and Denise Wallace will again be secretary.

“Project Pecan” was announced as a possible new industrial site in northeast Rockdale.

The MDD Façade Grant program will enter a new phase to help reduce risk for developers in Rockdale by helping with structure demolition, environmental remediation and legal fees that can come up with older buildings.

And finally, Freese and Nichols was hired to help with community vision for the City of Rockdale. They will develop a comprehensive city plan, a parks master plan and a utility assessment to make sure Rockdale is prepared for future growth.
