The Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD) is re-instating two programs which assist local businesses.
Executive Director Kara Clore said the Rental Assistance and Facade Programs are back in place.
Both had been suspended by the MDD board.
RENT—The Rental Assistance Program assists new business ventures within the first few months of operation.
It provides rent subsidies up to maximum total of $5,000 per applicant.
The program’s goal is to foster the growth of small businesses and commercial enterprises in the Rock-dale area.
It targets commercial establishments that complement existing businesses in the downtown area, building on the concept of redevelopment of the historical district of downtown Rockdale.
FACADES—The Facade Improvement Program is designed to revitalize and improve the appearance of Rockdale building to “positively impact the aesthetics, marketability and perception of the City of Rockdale and its extraterritorial jurisdiction.”
It is designed to serve as a catalyst or continued private sector investment through visible improvement and offer the private sector an incentive program to invest in Rockdale buildings.
The Facade Improvement Incentive Program will match eligible facade improvements programs on a dollar-for-dollar basis up to $10,000,
SCORECARD—Clore said to date, the MDD has approved eight rental assistance grants and 13 facade grants totaling $152,824.04.
