Former patrons of Little River Healthcare, which closed its Rockdale hospital and clinics last week will still have access to their medical records, according to Dr. John M. Weed III who briefed the Rockdale City Council on the situation.
Dr. Weed said former patrons are concerned about retrieving their medical records but they can retrieve them in one of two ways, one of which will end shortly.
He said former employees of LRHC, working without pay, are for a short time working to provide records for persons who come by the hospital’s Suite B, behind the main hospital with entry off Pecos Street.
That process will go away but a more permanent one will soon be in place, he said.
“As part of the bankruptcy process a trustee will be appointed by the court, and that will be part of the trustee’s duties, to assure there will be access to medical records,” Dr Weed said.
He said the access should happen in “days, not weeks.”
Since LRHC’s facilities closed, former patrons had been given a number to call for access to records.
Initially that number directed them to visit the LRHC website, access a form, fill it out and fax it in. As of early this week, however, the website had been removed and callers were instructed to physically come to the hospital.
REBIRTH—Dr. Weed told the council Monday work continues to bring health care back to Rock-dale and said he believes a clinic will be brought back “fairly soon.”
He said discussions continue with regional medical groups.
Dr. Weed noted a “court stay” had been placed on facilities but he believed that situation could be resolved.
Dr. Weed, who is also Rockdale Municipal Development District president, participated in an executive session with the council. No action followed.
