Rockdale Junior High is blessed with a fantastic math team that works well together, and has a big love for math, but more importantly for their students. The team is made up of Cheryl Meuth, Anna Bland, Alexis Fields, Deana Zinn and Jade Laake. Learn more about them below.
Coach Cheryl Meuth has been with Rockdale ISD five years as the 6th grade math teacher, and head cross country coach. She lives in Lexington with her husband and two sons. Her favorite thing about teaching math at RJH is watching the kids solve difficult problems (especially during the algebra unit) and lighting up when they find the solutions. Mrs. Anna Bland has been with Rockdale ISD three years as the 7th grade math teacher. She lives locally in Rockdale with her husband, Nathan, and new daughter, Karis. Anna loves teaching math because there is a solution to every problem.
This is Alexis Fields’ second year teaching 8th grade math and Algebra at RJH. In her down time she enjoys playing with her pup Axle and shopping. She loves seeing the growth her students can make in a year.
Two extremely important parts of the math department are Deana Zinn and Jade Laake. Deana has been with the district a total 8 1/2 years, while living in Rockdale for 20 years. She and her husband, Troy, have had 2 sons (Ramsey and Ryker) who graduated from Rockdale and they have a daughter (Lizzie Ryan) who is a Sophomore. One of the things that she likes about math is that there is one right answer but there can be different paths to get there. She teaches Math Intervention which is a pull out program with students in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades. They work in small groups and focus on filling in gaps that each student may have been struggling with in previous years while also looking at their current year TEKS.
Jade Lassetter Laake joined the math team this year as the SPED teacher, and junior high girls coach. Coach Laake attended junior high in Rockdale, and now lives in Taylor with her husband and daughter. Coach Laake gets to visit all the math classes and work with students who need additional assistance, as well as other students in the class. She loves watching students put in the hard work to get better at math.
