Commencement ceremonies for Milano High School will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Geneva Paceley Gym. Eighth grade promotion ceremonies are set for Thursday.
AWARDS DAY—Awards day for Milano Elementary will be on the last day of school Friday, May 24. Pre-K and Kindergarten ceremonies will be held from 8 to 9 a.m., first and second grade form 9:15-10:15 a.m. and third, fourth, and fifth grades starting at 10:30 a.m.
SOFTBALL CAMP—A softball camp will be held at Milano’s Lady Eagles softball field May 28-30 for girls entering kindergarten to 12th grades. Cost is $40 per camper and $30 for each additional sibling.
Two former Texas A&M University softball players will head up the camp this year, Erica Russell and Lexi Smith.
Pre-registration forms may be turned in to the Milano elementary and high school offices and must be turned in by Friday, May 24 to guarantee a camp T-shirt. Registration will be open on the first day of camp, but a shirt won’t be guaranteed.
Times are 9 to 10 a.m. for Kindergarten through third grade; 10 to 11:30 a.m. for fourth to sixth grades; and 12-noon to 2 p.m. for seventh to 12th grades. For more information, contact the MHS front office at 512-455-9333.
YOUTH FOOTBALL—Milano Youth Football is accepting registration for the 2019 season. Flag football is $70 per player, $100 for tackle and cheer is $30. Forms are available at the Milano schools this week. For more information, contact Robert Spencer, 254-231-1667, or DJ Magee, 281-381-0166.
GOLF TOURNEY—Wet weather has caused the annual Milano ISD scholarship golf tournament to be rescheduled for a second time. The event will now be held Saturday, June 22. The event will still take place at the Rock-dale Country Club.
Cost is $75 per player and is a four-person scramble event. The tournament will begin at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.
Prizes will be handed out for first through third place teams, longest drive, closest to the pin and hole-in-one. Limited to first 18 teams, breakfast and light lunch provided.
Hole sponsorships are available for $120. All net proceeds will fund scholarships for graduating Milano students. For more information, contact Milano ISD, 512-455-2533, or visit www.milanoisd.net.
FAMILY REUNION—The Williamson-J.T. (Jake) Downey family reunion is set for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, at Milano Senior Citizens Center. Lunch is set for noon, to RSVP, call or text Colton Popham at 979-229-9859.
TEEN DANCE—Milano/ Gause Ag Booster Club will host a Teen Dance on Sunday, June 2, at the Patterson Center in Rockdale. Cost is $5 per person and includes ages 13-19. No re-entry allowed. The New Connection DJ will provide tunes from 8 to 11 p.m.
SUNFLOWER RUN/ WALK—The Sunflower Fun Run/Walk benefiting the Melodie Hope Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund is set for Sept. 28 at Davidson Creek Park in Caldwell. The kids’ one-mile fun run is at 9 a.m. and the 5K Sunflower run will start at 9:30 a.m.
Prices are $30 for the 5K and $25 for the Kids Run. Guaranteed T-shirt if registered by Sept. 1. Please wear bright colors the day of the race. Sunflowers, crazy socks and tutus are encouraged. Registration will also be available on race day from 8-8:45 a.m.
