Milam County 4-H members competed in a National 4-H FCS Skillathon Competition on Jan. 8. The 4-H members competed during the summer in the Texas State Virtual Contest to compete in the national competition. The top two teams from the state for the national competition.
The Healthy Lifestyles team of Wylie Barrett, Thorndale 4-H; Mallory McDaniel, Rockdale 4-H; Abbigail Miller, Gause 4-H; and Grant Widner, Thorndale 4-H, placed third, McDaniel placed fifth individually and Grant placed eighth.
We really appreciate Elizabeth Miller, 4-H volunteer, for training this team and all the work she put into coaching.
There were four sections to the contest, and team members had 10 minutes for each section. The sections were: Food and Cooking Identification, Clothing and Sewing Identification, Interiors Identification and Food Judging Class.
The team also had a Life Skills Assessment– Disaster Preparedness, where members gave a disaster preparedness scenario, and the team was given 10 minutes to plan a presentation based on the scenario and then given five minutes to give the presentation.
