People vaccinated combined with those that have been infected with COVID-19 and survived are pushing up the immunity level in the county.
“I am happy to report that our herd immunity in Milam County is now at 38%,” said Milam County Judge Steve Young in his daily email report. “This includes those who have viral immunity because they have been infected and those who have been vaccinated.”
The state health department reported that 12,666 people in the county have been vaccinated.
“We are making progress. People are getting vaccinated. But, we must do more. More people must get vaccinated. Please don’t put this off any longer.” Young said. “We are using the Moderna vaccine, which is safe, 94% effective and the shot is virtually painless. Over 925 million people have been vaccinated with Moderna and not one person has died from the drug. If we are ever going to get this pandemic behind us, we need at least 75% of the county vaccinated. Please do your part – get vaccinated.”
Thursday, the county will run a 500 dose second round Moderna clinic in Rockdale. Friday, the county will give first round Moderna shots to anyone that wants one at the Milam County Medical Department, located at 209 S. Houston in Cameron from noon – 4 p.m. simply walk in.
