Rockdale and Milam County dodged violent weather that rumbled across Central Texas Tuesday afternoon.
Funnel clouds were reported, and posted online, as close as the Lexington area as a line of serious thunderstorms moved from southeast of Austin toward Bryan-College Station.

A power outage affected 74 homes in Rockdale. Power was restored about 3 a.m. Wednesday.
A funnel cloud was sighted in Smithville and first Bastrop County, then Lee County, were placed under tornado warnings.
The storm weakened considerably after moving into Burleson County.
RCS Thrift Shop now open for donations
Heavenly Treasures, the Rockdale Christian Services thrift shop at 233 North Main, is open this week for donations only, according to Pam Warren, RCS president.
“We are open through Friday (May 15), 9 a.m. until noon,” she said.
Drop offs will be at the back door only (in the alley).
“Donors will have to carry all donations into the building. Masks are suggested,” Warren said.
“We accept clothing and small appliances only. No large appliances or furniture can be accepted,” she said
Rockdale Fair slates commercial heifer tags
The Rockdale Fair Association (RFA) reminds commercial heifer exhibitors in the 2020 Rockdale Fair that tag-in for that event is Saturday. Hours are 8 to 10 a.m. at

Due to the COVID-19 situation, and social distancing, only one person per vehicle should unload heifers for tagging, according to the RFA.
Entry forms should be filled out and an RFA director will come to your vehicle and pick them up.
Entry fee is $50 per pen.
Forms are available from ag science teachers in Milam schools and on the Milam County 4-H website.

Unique calls listed for South Milam VFDs
There weren’t any fire calls during the past week dispatched from the Rockdale PD, but area firefighters still saw plenty of action with accidents and some unique calls.
Thorndale VFD, Milam Sheriff’s Department and AMR responded to bee attacks May 6 and 7 at Main and Salty in Thorndale.
An ATV accident was reported, with medical helicopter transport following, Sunday afternoon in the 7000 block of FM 436 north of Thorndale.
