Under the direction of Bill Torrey, the Milam County district attorney, the following felony cases were resolved in Judge John W. Youngblood’s 20th Judicial District Court:
• Jamie Eugene Cotton, 45, of Rockdale, plead guilty to the court in July 2020 to the 3rd degree felony, sex offender duty to register. After a presentence investigation and a sentencing hearing on Oct. 15, the court sentenced Cotton to seven years TDCJ and he was ordered to pay a $2,500 fine.
• Elizabeth Kay Huddleston, 24, of Killeen, was sentenced to 15 months confinement in the state jail division of TDCJ and was ordered to pay $360 restitution to DPS lab after pleading guilty to a state jail felony, possession of controlled substance (less than 20 analog units).
• Alejando Platas Jr., 20, of Cameron, was placed on three years deferred adjudication with standard conditions of probation and was ordered to pay a $2,500 fine after pleading guilty to a 3rd degree felony, evading arrest with motor vehicle. The state has requested a hearing on restitution for the damages caused to a victim in an underlying “hit and run” case.
• Betzbe Vahedian, 32, of Frisco, was placed on three years deferred adjudication with standard conditions of probation and was ordered to pay a $2,500 fine after pleading guilty to a state jail felony, forgery of financial instrument
• Deborah Ann Shivers, 35, of Rockdale, was placed on three years deferred adjudication with standard conditions of probation and was ordered to pay a $2,500 fine after pleading guilty to a 3rd degree felony, tampering with evidence
• Minerva Tames, 42, of Rockdale, was sentenced to five years confinement in TDCJ, probated for five years with standard felony DWI conditions of probation and was ordered to pay a $2,500 fine and restitution in an amount to be determined after pleading guilty to a 3rd degree felony, DWI 3rd or more
• Devonte Deshay Shepard, 28, of Cameron, was sentenced to three years confinement in TDCJ and was ordered to pay $151.55 restitution to the victim after pleading guilty to a 3rd degree felony, debit card abuse – enhanced (elderly)
• Jovanta Lee Dawson, 26, of Houston, was sentenced to three years confinement in TDCJ after pleading guilty to a 2nd degree felony, possession of controlled substance (4-400 grams).
