The Milam County Railroad Museum and the Old Town Cameron train layout will keep its doors closed for the time being, according to Museum Director Jamie Larson.

“The space in the old JC Penny building is just too confined and all of our volunteers are 65 years of age or older. It’s just not worth taking the risk of getting anyone infected with the COVID-19 virus right now,” Larson said.

In the meantime though, links have been posted on www.mcrm-otc.org to great train rides and museums that are available around the State of Texas.

Visitors will find some new exhibits when the museum is able to open.

“We received a library of railroad books from an estate in Beaumont. We now have a collection of autographed first edition books about American and European railroading in our Museum,” Larson said.

“We also will have pieces on display from the Middle Valley Railroad and the Houston & Texas Central Railroad. As soon as the COVID-19 crisis has been controlled we will be able to pick up a nice collection of Santa Fe Railroad exhibits from the Elmendorf Railroad Museum in south Texas,” Larson continued.
