There was good news for Milam County in the August sales tax checks. The county, which is facing a tax increase and budget cuts, registered a monthly gain compared to the 2017 figures. Milam remains behind the yearly pace. Both the City of Rockdale and the Rockdale Municipal Development District remain behind for both the most recent month and the year. State Comptroller Glenn Hegar disbursed August sales tax checks last week. August checks represent sales taxes collected in June and reported to the state in July. For the month, Milam County’s total was $91,788, up 3.82 percent over the August, 2017 total, $88,407. Milam County’s $625,926 collected so far this year represents a 6.27 percent decrease over 2017 collections of $667,832 over the same period. The City of Rockdale’s August total was $72,057. That’s down 2.33 percent from the August, 2017 check, $73,783. For the year, Rockdale is down 2.41 percent, from $525,939 to $513,536. The Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD) was down for the month and for the year. The MDD total for August was $34,294. That’s down 1.74 percent from $34,902 in August, 2017. For the year, the Rockdale MDD is down 1.3 6percent, from $254,743 to $251,255. The City of Cameron received a check for $93,273, up 21.8 percent from the $76,943 reported for August, 2017. For the year, Cameron receipts are up 2.05 percent, from $558,894 to $570,385. Milano’s August check of $7,996 was up 15.49 4.66 percent from the August, 2017, total of $6,923. For the year, Milano is up 5.96 percent, from $54,038 to $57,261. Thorndale’s August check was $14,019. That’s down 2.27 percent from $14,346 in August, 2017. Buckholts registered a 31.55-percent increase for the month. Its August, 2018, check was $2,058, up from the August, 2017, figure of $1,564. For the year, Buckholts is up 15.91 percent, from $10,893 to $12,626. Lee County was down for 2018. Bell, Burleson and Falls increased.
