‘LIGHT IT UP’—Milano ISD Athletic Department has began a “Light it Up” fundraising campaign to get lights on its baseball field. The school has had a baseball program for over two decades, but never a lighted field. The softball field got lights just a few weeks ago.

The first fundraising event is set for Friday with a chicken dinner and alumni fast-pitch. The dinner will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and the alumni game at 8 p.m. under the new softball lights.

Cost for the dinner plates are $12 each and a silent auction will also be held. The entry fee for the alumni game is $20 per player. Shirts for the event can be purchased for $15 each.

INDEPENDENCE DAY—The City of Milano has announced its annual Independence Day parade will take place this year. However, the event will take place on Saturday, July 3.

The parade will start at 10:30 a.m. in the football field parking lot. There will be a free community hot dog meal immediately following the parade at the Milano Civic Center.

FOOTBALL CAMP—A freshman football camp will be held for incoming freshmen July 26-27. The camp is free and will be held from 8-11 a.m. both days. It will provide instruction, competitive drills and activities to get a jump-start on the upcoming season. For additional information, contact head coach Nick Morehead, 979-204-2565.

SUNFLOWER FUN RUN/WALK—Plans are in the works for the Melodie Hope Jones Memorial Scholarship Fun “Sunflower Fun Run/Walk.” The event is scheduled for Sept. 25 at Davidson Creek Park in Caldwell. There is a kids’ one mile color run at 9 a.m. and the 5K starts at 9:30 a.m.

The cost is $30 for the 5K and $25 for the kids run. T-shirts are guaranteed if signed up by Aug 24. Please wear bright colors on the day of the run. For more information, visit the group’s Facebook page or email melodiesmeow@gmail.com.
