MISD REPORT

One of the events our community and school look forward to is our Veterans Day program.

Milano ISD will be hosting our annual Veterans Day program on Friday, at 10:30 a.m. in the high school gym. Lunch will be provided after the ceremony.

It is important to recognize our veterans and pay our respects to them.

Just as important, if not more important, is that we use days like these to teach our youth what it means to be an American and to live in a country where it seems too often we take for granted the freedoms we have today. Freedom is not free.

Many of our forefathers, brothers and sisters have paid the ultimate price by laying down their life for the freedoms we have today. One of the freedoms we have is the ability to be able to hold local fairs, rodeos, and stock shows.

I always enjoy being able to go and see our students show their livestock animals as well as the various projects they have completed at the Rockdale Fair.

Several of our students competed and placed well at the fair. It is always great to be able to see our children competing and enjoying the fruits of their labor.

Another one of our students enjoyed the fruits of their labor Saturday at the state cross country meet in Round Rock.

There were over 150 runners competing at the state meet, and Parker Jones, earned the silver medal, finishing second.

Even more impressive is to learn that Parker finished with the third fastest time in 2A history at the state meet. Awesome job Parker. I am looking forward to seeing what Parker accomplishes in the future. Parker is a senior this year, and has a bright future ahead of him. Our volleyball team had another outstanding season this year.

We finished the season third in district and lost our bi-district game against a very good Snook team.

Great job Lady Eagles, we are proud of you!

Our varsity football team has one more regular season game remaining this season. We will host Holland on Friday.

Make sure to come early and enjoy the beef stew supper in the elementary cafeteria, which is being hosted by the Alumni Association. The Alumni Association is very supportive of the school and provides our graduating seniors with scholarships. Please come out and enjoy some good food and fellowship.

Our bi-district football game will be against Mason. Once we have worked out the details on the game, we will post information on our website and Facebook page. Our students and staff enjoyed Halloween.

The majority of our students and staff dressed in various costumes and enjoyed the day. One of the traditions we have is allowing the elementary students to walk over to the secondary campus and go by each classroom and allow the secondary staff to see their costume. Also, each secondary teacher is able to give every elementary student a piece of candy. It’s an enjoyable time for all of our staff and students.
