The Texas A&M Forest Service Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program awarded the city of Milano Volunteer Fire Department a $20,000 grant to assist in the purchase of new fire and rescue equipment.
Wit h t he gra nt, t he department was able to purchase a new cutter, spreader and hydraulic pump. This rescue and extraction tool is an essential piece for the department to perform rescue and extraction missions, especially in the case of vehicle accidents.
“This new equipment is lighter and will prove easier use by volunteers,” said Dawson Warren, city of Milano VFD 2nd Assistant Chief.
Warren added that the fire department is accepting new volunteers to assist in fire and emergency response. Those interested in service as a volunteer can attend a VFD meeting to meet other volunteers and receive more information about service with the VFD.
Texas A&M Forest Service is an agency operating within the Texas A&M University System and as the Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program administrator is committed to protecting lives, property and natural resources.
The Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program is funded by the Texas State Legislature to provide cost share funding to rural volunteer fire departments for the acquisition of firefighting vehicles, fire and rescue equipment, protective clothing, dry-hydrants, computer systems and firefighter training.
