For just over a day law enforcement officers in Milam County and the Texas Panhandle thought a missing Lubbock-area man might have come to the Gause area and died.
But the search for 79-year-old Celestino Rodriguez of Slayton was called off Thursday afternoon.
Sheriff Chris White said information was received from Lubbock County authorities that they believe Rodriguez never made it to Milam County, even though his car was found last Wednesday on the Sugarloaf Mountain (CR 264) bridge on the Little River.
On Tuesday, Lubbock County officials said they were searching for two men.
During the Milam County search, officers used a boat, a drone and Game Warden search dogs.
