Because of all the construction downtown there was no Martin Luther King Day parade this year, however there was a balloon release celebration at Sumuel Park on Monday. “We would like to thank Cindy Cates with Tisket-A -Tasket and the Flower Shop for the balloons as well as Allen Chappel, New Hope Baptist, Springfield Baptist and New Jerusalem for the refreshments,” according to MLK Committee President Henry Miller. Even though there wasn’t an actual parade, there was still a Grand Marshall, Elizabeth Johnson, who gave the MLK speech. Music was provided by Linda Ford, and Sean Hancock, pastor at Springfield Baptist, provided the blessing. In the photo above, balloons are about tot be released.
