Madeline (Maddy) Moody is valedictorian of the 90-plus-candidate graduating class of 2020 and—in one of the closest GPA finishes ever, if not the closest—Whitley Boyd is the salutatorian.

“Virtual hybrid graduation” is set for Friday, May 29, and will include an in-car viewing on a big screen in the Tiger Stadium parking lot, a pre-event parade and post-event fireworks display, sponsored by Whinstone.

Moody is the daughter of Jason and Melody Moody. She compiled a 4.559 grade-point average over her four-year RHS academic career.

The salutatorian is the daughter of Eddie and Susan Boyd. Her GPA was 4.557.

That represent a difference of only .002.

Grades are based on a 4.0 scale, but grades higher than 4.0 are possible due to weighted honors classes.

MAY 29 SCHEDULE— During the morning, yard signs will be placed along Murray Avenue, between the high school and Tiger Stadium honoring the 2020 graduates.

“Students may pick up their sign any time beginning May 30,” Principal Brent Hasselbach said.

The parade begins at 4:45 p.m. at the intermediate campus. Hasselbach said one graduate, plus family, per car.

Each senior will get one parking pass for the evening virtual graduation in the Tiger Stadium parking lot.

“One car per senior and one senior per car, unless with family, Hasselbach said.

There will be parking for other vehicles in the grass overflow parking lot. “These may not be able to see the screen,” Hasselbach noted.

Venue opens at 8 p.m., there’s a teacher/staff tribute to seniors at 8:35, presentation of virtual graduation on the RISD website, RHS Facebook page and high school Twitter account.

Fireworks follows once it is dark enough.
