Vaturday is the first day to file for the arch , 353, Republican and Democratic Primaries and a number of candidates have already announced their candidacies in public statements.
All received so far by The Reporter have indicated they will file in the Republican Primary.
Most recent announcement was Monday when former three-term county J udge Dr. Frank Summers said he is running for the Srecinct 6 Fommission0 er post now held by J ohn Fisher.
Fisher has indicated he will not seek a new term. He will be completing his second term next year, having been elected in 2012 and 2016.
HO Summers served three terms as Milam County J udge, being elected in 1992, 2002 and 2006, before being defeated in 2010.
He unsuccessfully sought the county judge’s post in 2014 and 2018.
TAX ASSESSOR-COLLECTOR—Incumbent Sherry Mueck has announced she will be a candidate for a new term as tax collector.
She was appointed to the post in 2015, won an unexpired term election that year and a new term in 2016.
SHERIFF—Two candidates have announced for the position of sheriff.
I ncumbent Chris White is seeking a new term. He was appointed following the death of David Greene last year then won an election in November to serve out the remainder of that unexpired term.
Also announcing was Craig Wise, retired Harris County Sheriff’s Department sergeant and Somerville Police.
Two-term incumbent Prosecutor Bill Torrey has announced for re-election as has Lonnie Gosch, attorney and Cameron Police Chief.
District J udge J ohn Y oungblood has announced for a new term.
Ricky McCall has announced for Precinct 1 Commissioner.
Filing period runs from Saturday through Monday, Dec. 9.
