Mr. Morgan
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary “Gab” Edward Morgan, 64, of Milano.
Gary passed peacefully in his home on Saturday eve ning, Nov. 29, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.
Born on April 18th, 1961, in Cameron, Gary was the son of Jimmy Travis Morgan of Milano and Ora Alene Bradshaw of Blue.
From a young age, Gary was industrious, dependable, and wise beyond his years. He took to working on trucks, tractors, trailers, bulldozers—anything that moved—before most kids even learned to ride a bike. The old-timers around town regularly called on him to haul hay or tackle whatever job needed doing. He began operating heavy equipment at just 10 years old, and by 16 he was handed the keys to a brand-new bulldozer and told to “get to work.”
During high school, Gary worked for his father at the Skelley Truckstop in Milano, servicing big rigs late into the night.
After graduating from Milano High School in 1979, he went straight to work as a pipefitter’s helper for Brown & Root on the Unit 4 project at Sandow, outside Rockdale. Ambitious and quick to learn, he soon realized the upward climb would be too slow for his liking—so he moved on to the oilfield, where he was promptly promoted to driller.
Gar y later spent 10 years working for the Milano Water Supply Corporation before starting his own heavy equipment business. He cleared land all over Milam County, built ponds, and brought out the “potential” of properties for his real estate friends.
Gary bailed hay, raised cattle, raised hell, and bought and sold cars, trucks, guns—anything he thought he could turn into an honest dollar. He never asked for anything he couldn’t get on his own, yet he was always the first to lend a helping hand. Many relied on Gary for guidance, advice, or simply to point them in the right direction. There was truly nothing he could not do.
Known as a well of knowledge and a man who “always knew someone or something,” it was common to hear folks say, “Call Gary Morgan—he’ll know.”
Gary retired at the age of 50 to care for aging family members. He was always the caregiver, never the one to be cared for. To know Gary was to love him. He was, without a doubt, one of a kind.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Jimmy Travis Morgan of Milano, and his brother, Larry Allen “Pete” Morgan of Jewett.
He is survived by his mother, Ora Alene Redmond of Milano; his brother, Jimmy Lloyd Morgan and wife Amy Jean Rodden of Milano; his son, Gary Daniel Morgan of Cameron; his grandchildren, Emily Danielle Morgan and Jared Whitt Morgan of Cameron; his niece, Brook Nicole Morgan of Milano; his nephew, Christopher Lloyd Campbell of Milano; Orin Lee Morgan; his girlfriend, Lauren Mickelle Coston.
