A 69-year-old Rockdale woman was arrested last Wednesday on a murder charge in connection with the death of her daughter last year.
Police Chief Thomas Harris told The Reporter that Frances Valdez was arrested in connection with the connection with the June 3, 2019, death of 25-year-old Valerie Valdez.
Harris said the 11-month delay came about due to the time required to receive toxicology reports.”
Those indicated the daughter died of an overdose of over-the-counter cough medication,” Harris said. “The district attorney reviewed the case and the murder warrant was issued.”
Lt. Stephen Goodrich of the Rockdale Police Department said Valerie Valdez had Down’s Syndrome.
He said on June 13 of last year, officers responded to a report of a deceased person in a local residence.
Goodrich said police believed the search “very suspicious” and requested an autopsy.
He said a considerable length of time passed before medical reports were finalized as investigators had delays in finding family members.
Frances Valdez was booked into the Milam County Jail on Thursday afternoon on $50,000 bond.
She remained in custody in the jail at press-time Wednesday morning.
