National Music Week annual celebration for 2019 begins Sunday, May 5, and runs through Sunday, May

12.

Theme this year is: “Music…A Magic Key.”

Local churches are invited to participate by including the National Federation of Music Club’s Federation Hymn, “To Thee, Our God Creator King,” in their worship services both weeks.

Mayor John King has signed a proclamation for the city to participate in National Music Week. A photo will run in next week’s Reporter.

At 7:30 p.m. Monday (May 6) local musician Lee “Sparky” Thomason will be a trumpet guest soloist with the Waco Jazz Orchestra at Ball Performing Arts Center on the McLennan Community College campus.

At 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 8 at the Rock-dale Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial public library, a children’s

storytime will include musical books.

Also that day at 11 a.m., Dixie Whitmore’s Junior Keyboard Melody Makers will perform at the Rock-dale Senior Citizen Center.

At 3:45 p.m. the group will perform at Rockdale Renaissance Villa.

The public is invited to attend these events and help celebrate during the week by joining in on the activities.—Lisa Loewe, club member.

Historical Society sets quilt exhibit Saturday

The Rockdale Historical Society will host a quilt exhibit Saturday at the I&GN Historical Depot and is now accepting quilts to display.

New awards day date; final deadlines listed

Awards Day at Rock-dale High School has been changed from Thursday, May 16, to Wednesday, May

15.

Time remains 6:30 p.m. in the RHS Gym, according to Kelly Windham, RHS counselor.

There are still a few scholarship application deadlines as follows:

• Alma Regenbrecht Scholarship, general, May

6.

• Knights of Columbus Scholarship, general, May

3.

• Modernistic Social Club Scholarship, general, May 3.

• Rockdale Chamber of Commerce, general, May 7.

Ticket sales continue

for Terlingua diorama

CAMERON—Milam County Railroad Museum continues this week with the winner to receive a scale railroad diorama of the famous Terlingua ghost town in the Big Bend.

Donations may be made Monday through Friday at these Cameron locations: The Bling Box, Cameron Chamber of Commerce, Agrilife Extension Office and the Milam County Historical Museum.

Donation tickets are $5 each or 5 for $20. Drawing will be May 11 during National Train Day activities.

The railroad museum is open 10 to 4 Tuesdays and Saturdays.

Earth Day committee lists coloring winners

The Rockdale Earth Day Committee has listed winners of its 2019 coloring contest as follows:

• Pre-K—Esperanza Rivera.

• Kindergarten—Katherine Gonzalez.

• First grade—Auriah Gallop.

• Second grade—Brynlee Williams.

• Third grade—No winner.

• Fourth grade—Amber Smith.

• Fifth grade—Bethany Noack and Brody Williams.

First place winners and Discovery Days coloring sheets will be on display at the city library.

“The Earth Day Committee thanks all of Rock-dale ISD and the wonderful teachers that made this contest such a success,” Dave Melton, spokesman, said.

“Thanks to the Rockdale Dairy Queen, and manager Tammy Davenport, and Cindy Cates, owner of Tisket A Tasket Flower Shop, for donating prizes for the first place winners in each age group,” he said.
