Rockdale High School announces that seniors Layla Barrera, Alvan Liu, Jack Luckey, Macy McDaniel and Jason Ponnaiya have earned national recognition from the College Board for their outstanding academic achievements. This honor is awarded to students who have excelled academically, demonstrated exceptional performance on standardized exams and met the rigorous criteria set forth by the College Board.

The C ol le ge Boa rd National Recognition Programs recognize the academic achievements of students from underrepresented groups, including those from rural areas, small towns, African American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, Indigenous/ Native American and first-generation college students. The recognition helps students gain visibility from colleges, showcasing their status as top students and opening doors to opportunities they may not have previously considered.

To qualify for this honor, students must meet the following criteria:

• Achieve a GPA of B+ or higher, equivalent to at least 3.3 or 87%-89%, at the time of submission. Both weighted and unweighted GPAs are considered.

• Reside in the United States, a U.S. territory, or on a U.S. military base, or attend a DoDEA school. U.S. citizenship is not a requirement.

• Identify as Black/African American, Latino/Hispanic, Indigenous/Native American, first-generation college student or attend high school in a rural area or small town.

• Rank in the top 10% among PSAT 10 and PSAT/ NMSQT test takers in 11th grade in their state for their award program OR have achieved a score of three or higher on at least two distinct AP Exams by the end of 10th grade.

This recognition not only honors their achievements but also sets them on a path to even greater opportunities in higher education.”
