The Rockdale ISD is beginning a Distinguished Alumni Awards program, similar to the highly-successful Hall of Honor which recognizes athletes.
It will honor Rockdale High School, and Aycock High School, graduates who distinguished themselves and have become “top in their field of work,” according to Supt. Dr. Denise Monzingo.
“The pride we feel for our alumni needs to be shared as we honor those past students,” she said. Awards will encompass various fields of service including, but not limited to, fine arts, performing arts, business, education, entertainment, law, medicine, military, philanthropy, police, public service, religion, scholarship and science.
Dr. Monzingo said the inaugural Distinguished Alumni awards will be presented this fall and then in the fall of odd-numbered years.
Athletic Director Jeff Miller said the Athletic Hall of Honor awards will continue to be presented in even-numbered years.
Nominations for Distinguished Alumni awards are being accepted from the public through March 31.
Forms and guidelines are available online at ww.rockdalesd.net. (Go to “community” then “alumni”).
Forms may also be picked up from The Rockdale ISD.
“This is exciting, not just for the school district, but for the entire community,” Dr. Monzingo said.
“These graduates’ achievements, strengths of character and citizenship serve as models to inspire and challenge today’s students,” she said.
