Surplus food giveaway Thursday at KC Hall

Central Texas Food Bank’s Mobile Pantry will host a distribution at 9 a.m. Thursday, at the KC Hall, according to Denise Sifuentes, spokesperson.

“Since the distribution relies totally on volunteer help, volunteers will be needed and greatly appreciated,” she said

Central Texas Food Bank distributions are held the third Thursday of each month.

“Clients are asked to bring sacks, boxes, or other receptacles,” Sifuentes said.

Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult, she said.

RISD band selections advance in area contest

Two Rockdale ISD bands continue to advance in the Association of Texas Small School Bands (ATSSB) Outstanding Performance Series Region contests, according to Adrian Acevedo, band program director.

Acevedo said the bands have cleared the region (Level 1) contest and both advance to the area (level 2) contest.

He said the RJH Symphonic Band advanced with the two selections entered, “Sakura” and “Night Fury”.

The RHS Big Blue Band advanced with three selections, “Coast Guards”, “The Rowan Tree” and “Con-tempo”.

“We look forward to the area results this week,” he said.

Free summer meals served at Rockdale ISD

School is out, but no-cost summer meals for children 18 and under are being served at the intermediate campus.

Hours are as follows:

• Breakfast, 7:30 to 8 a.m. Monday through Thursday.

• Lunch, 11 to 11:30 a.m., Monday through Thursday.

Rockdale Intermediate School is located at 1338 West US 79, west of Walmart.

Meals will be served through June 28.

Commissioners slate two meetings Thursday

CAMERON—Milam County Commissioners will meet in two sessions Thursday morning in the courthouse.

At 10 a.m. commissioners will hold a brief meeting to approve payroll and bills.

The court will also open bids for sale of a carport in Precinct 2.

Commissioners will re-convene at 10:15 a.m. to hear a presentation by Gary Westbrook of the Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District on its Aquifer Conservancy Program.

Last free movie ahead for summer readers

The final free movie of the month-long Texas Summer Reading Club will be shown at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Kay Theatre.

“Sing,” an animated full-length film, will end a series of three movies for the reading club, sponsored by the Lucy Hill Patterson Memorial Library.

The summer program wraps up at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 28, with a special program at the I&GN Depot Museum.

Rockdale MDD gets achievement award

The Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD) has received a Certificate of Achievement for Economic Excellence, according to Kara Clore, executive director.

The certificate “recognized a commitment to professional economic development by city administration, elected and appointed officials and exemplary professional standards demonstrated by the economic development staff,” Carlton Schwab, TEDC president/CEO said.

Thorndale city council names mayor pro tem

THORNDALE—City council members in Thorn-dale, meeting last Wednesday, named Stephanie Churchman as mayor pro tem.

Also during the meeting the council approved the annual review from the Thorndale Housing Authority, approved the county’s hazard mitigation plan and hired Mike Clark as a full-time police officer.

Milano ISD trustees set session for Thursday

MILANO—School trustees in Milano will meet in regular session at 7 p.m. Thursday in the MHS library.

Agenda items will include board reorganization, a transfer agreement with the Gause ISD and declaring of surplus property.
