Benefit ride scheduled at Nat’s on Saturday
A benefit ride/fund raiser for Dendy Brown is scheduled for March 30 leaving from Nat’s near Milano.
Brown was critically injured in an accident last September. He has had 11 surgeries and has at least two more to go.
Registration for the ride (bikes, trikes and trucks) starts at 9 a.m. Fee is $20 for riders, $25 with passenger. T-shirts are $20, pre-order.
Food is provided to participants.
Barbecue plates, priced at $10, will be sold to the public from 11:30 a.m. until sold out. There’s also live music by Southern Groove, live and silent auctions.

Services held for former councilman
Funeral services for J. T. Talley, former longtime member of the Rockdale City Council, were held on Tuesday.
Talley, 89, was a member of the council from 1995 to 2010, representing the east ward. Obituary, page 5B.
VFW cookoff to help ACS on Saturday
“Cookin’ For the Cause at the VFW,” a cookoff to assist the American Cancer Society will be held Saturday, at VFW Post 6525, 978 US 79 in Rockdale.
There’s competition in three categories, chili (entry fee $20), stew ($20) and beans ($10).
Set-up can be as early at 7 a.m. with awards at 5:30 p.m. Jackpot beans is winner take all with first through third places awarded for chili and stew.
There’s also a washer tourney at 6 p.m., a 50/50 fund raiser and silent auction.

Blood drive Sunday at St. Paul Lutheran
THORNDALE—St. Paul Lutheran Church and School in Thorndale will host a Baylor Scott & White Blood Center blood drive on Sunday.
Hours are 8 a.m. to 12-noon.
All donors in March will receive a free, limited edition T-shirt.
A photo ID is required to donate blood.

Senior citizen center picks up keys to van
CAMERON—Carolyn Cooper, director of the Rockdale Senior Citizens Center, picked up the keys to the center’s new van and received a personal honor Monday morning at the Milam County Commissioners Court.
The van was purchased for the center’s use for $20,500.
Cooper was also cited for her 34 years of service to Rockdale’s senior citizens.
MDD okays upgrade for Patterson Center
Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD) directors agreed Monday to contribute $8,000 to an upgrade at the Patterson Civic Center.
City Manager Chris Whittaker said acoustic paneling will be installed.
At recent town halls and council meetings held in the center, many persons sitting in the middle and back of the room had difficulty in clearly hearing conversations at the front.
The upgrade will also include some renovations to the center’s small kitchen area.
Workshop for students scheduled on Mondays
“Spring into the Future,” job search an financial management workshops for Rockdale High School students are being held every Monday through April 15.
They begin at 3:30 p.m. in the high school library.
Sponsors are Workforce Solutions, the Rockdale ISD P-TO and CPA Marvin Clements.
Milano VFD spring garage sale slated
The annual Milano VFD Auxiliary Spring Garage Sale is set for April 4-6 at the fire station.
Hours are 8 a.m to 5 p.m. April 4 and 5 and 8 to 1 on April 6.
MARC Ride meeting scheduled April 7th
The next planning meeting for the 18th Annual MARC Ride is set for 2:30 p.m. April 7 at the Milam Adult Resource Center.
