Substitute teacher

training is this week

A mandatory training for all new RISD substitute teachers will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday, at the Rockdale ISD Conference Room (520 W. Davilla).

Training will include processes for the automated substitute service system Rockdale ISD has implemented.

Individuals interested in becoming substitute teachers must attend this training in order to qualify for the substitute list.

Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and provide consent to a criminal background check.

Substitute applications can be picked up at the RISD Central Office (520 W. Davilla) prior to the training.

Meadowbrook slates

free giveaway Sept. 14

Meadowbrook Baptist Church will host a free giveaway from 8 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, according to Denice Doss, spokesperson.

The giveaway will include household items, clothing, furniture, home decor and more.

Meadowbrook Baptist is located at 1401 Colorado, across from Rockdale High School.

Sunday’s 4-H Banquet

in Cameron was a hit

CAMERON—The 2019 Milam County 4-H Banquet brought in 250 students from Milam County.

The story will appear in next week’s edition of the paper.

Joint planning meeting set for water districts

MILANO–Groundwater Management Area 12 will hold a Joint Planning Meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 10 a.m. at the Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District office in Milano. Attendance is free and open to the public.

The groundwater conservation districts must meet at least annually to review groundwater management plans, accomplishments of the management area, and proposals to adopt new or amend existing desired future conditions for the relevant aquifers within a management area.

Counties within Groundwater Management Area 12 include Bastrop, Brazos, Burleson, Falls, Fayette, Freestone, Lee, Leon, Limestone, Madison, Milam, Navarro, Robertson, and Williamson.

Kay Theater announces fun run/walk activities

The Historic Kay Theater will sponsor their 1K Fun Run and 5K Walk/Run on Sat., Oct 5.

Participants will receive a race shirt, bib and ticket to their pancake breakfast.

There are events for both the serious runners and those wishing to escape the zombie apocalypse.

There will also be a costume contest for all ages: Run/Walk in a family friendly costume.

Registration forms can be picked up at The Rock-dale Reporter and the Rock-dale Chamber of Commerce office.

Entry fee for the 1K Trick or Treat Run is $15 before Oct. 4 and $18 on race day and for the 5K Race/Walk $25 before Oct. 4 and $30 on race day.

T-shirt size not guaranteed for registrations received after Sept. 13.

Changes made for Fair deadlines this year

A number of changes have been made in deadlines for entering the 2019 Rockdale Fair as follows:

• Baked goods auction entry forms are due Sept. 27 (postmarked no later than this date).

• Ag mechanics entry forms due Oct. 1 (postmarked no later than this date).

• Pig scramble entry forms due no later than Oct. 2, $5 per entry per contestant. Pig scramble is 7 p.m. Oct. 16.

• Palpation and body condition scoring, 8 to 10 a.m. Oct. 5, Milam County Auction Barn, Cameron.

• Exhibitor kickoff, 5:30 p.m. Oct. 16, Fair Park with free exhibitor T-shirts, free hot dog dinner for all, family night at Fair Carnival, pick up exhibitor passes, bring tack, feed, signage, stalls but no animals. Ag mechanics check-in 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

RISD seeks applicants for campus councils

Openings exist for a business representative and community representative on Campus Education Councils in the Rockdale ISD.

Pam Kaufmann, assistant superintendent said representatives from these groups will be selected to serve on the councils by principals and other council members.

Parent representatives must have students on the campus for which they apply. Community representatives must reside in the Rockdale ISD, be at least 18 years old and cannot be the parent of a student currently enrolled in the district.

Business representatives must own or operate a business but the business does not have to be located in the Rockdale ISD. Parent, community and business representatives cannot be employees of the Rockdale ISD.

Application deadline is Oct. 4. Applications may be picked up at any campus office or at the Central Administration Office.

City works department busy on town projects

• Landscaping work continues at the Library.

• Roads are being patched at the following locations: 240 Green, 232 E. 3rd, 557 Bowser, E. Williams at Copeland, Bowser at Murray, 206 MLK and 236 Wilcox.

• The power is on at the Splash Pad. Kraftsman Commercial Playgrounds can now continue the work.

• Bids for city banking have been received. The bids are being evaluated and will be presented to Rockdale City Council next week.

• Tree-trimming work on streets in Rockdale has been started for postal vehicles, trash trucks and other vehicles.

• The pavilions at Sumuel Park are being painted.
