Blood drawing ahead Feb. 16 in Thorndale

Baylor Scott & White Blood Center will be at St. Paul Lutheran Church & School in Thorndale on Sunday, Feb. 16 for a blood drawing.

Hours are 8 a.m. to 12-noon.

Donors will receive a free, limited edition T-shirt and a blood donor lapel pin.

A photo ID is required to donate. Donors 18 and younger are required to provide proof of age to register for donation.

Register in the school gym.

Father-daughter dance Feb. 21st at KC Hall

The 13th annual Father-Daughter Dance, benefiting the Rockdale Tiger Booster Club scholarship fund, is set for Friday, Feb. 21, at the KC Hall.

Hours are 7 to 9 p.m.

Admission is $20 per couple, $5 for each additional daughter.

Tickets may be purchased at Gatti’s Pizza, Charming Blossoms and Rockdale Signs.

Music will be by Jon and Crissy Flores.

Police-Firefighters set banquet for Feb. 22nd

The annual Rock-dale Police Officer of the Year-Firefighter of the Year Banquet is set for Saturday, Feb. 22, at the KC Hall.

Entertainment will be provided by DJ Jon Flores with catering by Lee’s Landing.

The event features silent and live auctions.

All funds raised go toward banquet expenses.

A number of awards will be presented in addition to the traditional Officer of the Year and Firefighter of the Year awards.

KC’s set to host annual appreciation dinner

Rockdale Knights of Columbus Council 7014 will host it annual chili dinner for Milam County law enforcement and firefighters Feb. 17 at the KC Hall.

The event honors law enforcement, Rockdale, Black Jack, Milano, Minerva and Gause firefighters and AMR ambulance crews.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. for social activities and a chili supper will be served at about 6 p.m., KC spokesman Mike Korenek said.

RVFD fund raiser’s tickets on sale Feb. 17

Tickets for the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department’s annual fund raising night at the KC Hall will go on sale Feb, 17, according to spokesman Mike Korenek.

The fund raiser is set for April 18.

Tickets will be sold to persons on a year-to-year list.

Fire calls listed for past week in area

Fire calls dispatched during the past week from the Rockdale Police Station were listed as follows:

• 11:14 a.m. Thursday, Rockdale VFD called to direct traffic at Cameron-Main (US 79-FM 487) corner as all four lights were inoperative. (See photo page 1A).

• 11:57 a.m. Sunday, grass fire US 77 near CR 232, Rockdale VFD.

• 1:11 p.m. Sunday, smell of smoke in 100 block of Circle Drive in Gause, possible electrical fire feared, Gause VFD.

Extensive damage from one-vehicle accident

No serious injuries, but extensive damages, were reported in a one-vehicle accident the afternoon of Jan. 29.

State Trooper Zachary Martinez of Falls County said a vehicle operated by Richard Scott, 31, of Cameron left FM 3061 southwest of CR 413 due to a tire blowout.

City gets turned town for ‘safe routes’ grant

The City of Rockdale did not get the 100-percent state-funded grant itt had hoped for to improve access routes to and from schools.

City Manager Chris Whittaker said the Texas Transportation Committee announced the list of awards for its 2019 Transportation Alternative Set-Aside grants.

Rockdale was not on the list.

The Texas Dept. of Transportation is continuing to develop its Conditional Projects List for future non-urban and small urban Transportation Set-Aside Grants.

Date set for annual MARC cycle event

The 19th annual MARC Ride, organized by Bad To The Bone Riders of Rockdale will take place on Saturday June 13, at The Ranch

This annual ride benefits the Milam Adult Resource Center (MARC) of Milam County located in Rockdale

MARC serves all Milam County adult residents with physical and learning disabilities.

MARC is a 501C3 Organization (Non-Profit Organization) that depends on this fundraiser to be a major resource to keep serving its consumers, Charles Starr, spokesman, said.

“MARC teaches these consumers valuable life skills that most people take for granted,” he said.

In the 18-year history of the ride, it has donated 100 percent of the proceeds to MARC, amounting to about $315,000.

The ride for 2020 will begin and end June 13 at The Ranch.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. with first bike out at 11.

Fee is $20 for rider and $25 with a passenger. The fee includes a barbecue meal after the ride, prepared by Kathy Quinney and volunteers.

Plates will be sold for $10 each to the public, from 11:30 a.m. till sold out.

There will be long sleeve and pocket ride T-shirts for sale by pre-order only for $25 with an order deadline of May 4. Call (512)-698-278 to order.

“We will have plenty of short sleeve ride shirts for $20 the day of ride,” Starr said. “We will also have ride pins for $5 each.”
