Body

Rockdale ISD has the following openings on the Campus Education Councils, according to an announcement by Kathy Pelzel:

• A parent representative, a community representative and a business representative at Rockdale Elementary School.

• Community and business representatives at Rockdale Intermediate School

• Parent, community and business representatives for both the junior high and high schools.

Representatives from these groups will be selected to serve on the Campus Educational Councils by the principals and other Council members.

Parent representatives must have students enrolled on the campus for which they apply. Community representatives must reside in Rockdale ISD, be at least 18 years old, and cannot be the parent of a student currently enrolled in the district. Business representatives must own or operate a business, but the business does not have to be located in Rockdale ISD. Parent, community and business representatives cannot be employees of Rockdale ISD.

Applications are available online at www.rockdaleisd. net or can be picked up from the Administration Building at 520 W. Davilla Street. The deadline for submitting applications is Friday, Sept. 28.

Campus and District Educational Councils serve as advisory groups to the principals and Superintendent but have no regulatory powers. “This is a great opportunity for our parents and community members to provide input to our district. Our Councils play a vital role in our school improvement process. We look forward to working with all those who apply.” said Mrs. Pelzel.

In an attempt to gather input from more parents and community members whose schedules have not typically allowed participation in such committees, all Campus and District Education Council meetings will be available both in-person and remotely.

Dates for Creditby- Examination for acceleration 2023-24

Rockdale ISD, in compliance with TEA requirements and RISD Board Policy, has established policies and procedures for credit-by-exam for acceleration in grades K-12. Students and/or parents who want to consider an accelerated progression through school should visit with the campus principal or counselor.

On all campuses, specific criteria must be met. Students must achieve a certain score(s) on a criterion-referenced exam(s). In addition, the student’s parent or guardian must give written approval of the proposed acceleration and the campus principal must also concur.

In grades K-5, the student must score 80 percent or above on a criterion-referenced test for the grade level to be skipped in each of the following areas: language arts, mathematics, science and social studies.

In grades 6-12, the student can receive credit for an academic subject in which the student has received no prior instruction if the student scores a three or higher on a College Board advanced placement examination that has been approved by the board for the applicable course; a scaled score of 50 or higher on an examination administered through the College- Level Examination Program (CLEP) and approved by the board for the applicable course; or 80 percent or above on any other criterion- referenced test approved by the board for the applicable course.

Students scoring 80 percent or better will receive that examination score as the course grade on the academic record. Test dates for the 20232024 school year have been scheduled as follows: Nov. 16 and 17, 2023 (Oct. 27 deadline), March 21 and 22, 2024 (Feb. 23 deadline), May 16 and 17, 2024 (April 19 deadline) and Aug. 1 and 2, 2024 (June 28 deadline). If a student plans to take an exam, examinees must be registered by the deadlines. Please contact the campus principals or counselors for more information.
