MCT plans weekend of play performances

CAMERON—Milam Community Theater plans four performances of “Same Time Next Year” April 26-29 in the Williams Civic Center in Cameron.

Performances are set for 7 p.m. April 26, 27 and 28, and 2 p.m. April 29.

Doors open one-half hour before curtain-time each performance.

Also, MCT will host a new children’s camp in June, featuring the play “Big Bad,” in the Cameron City Park.

4-Hers collecting kids books for local libraries

Milam County 4-Hers are collecting children’s books to help stock local libraries and reading programs.

County Extension Agent Micah Holcombe said donations of books are being accepted in the extension office in downtown Cameron, 100 East First, until May 31.

“If you want your books to be distributed to a certain community, please label them with the name of the preferred destination,” she said.

Books sought are those written for children or “any you think children would enjoy,” Holcombe said.

Emergency supplies tax free period this week

With the potential for severe weather approaching, Texans can purchase certain items tax-free during the state’s sales tax holiday for emergency preparation supplies, Friday through Sunday.

A list of emergency preparation supplies that may be purchased tax-free can be found on the Comptroller’s website, www.comptroller.texas.gov.

World Day of Prayer May 3 at Murray Street

The Rockdale Ministerial Alliance will host a World Day of Prayer Service from 12-noon to 1 p.m. May 3 at Murray Street Church of Christ.

“Our format is much like Holy Week, churches together are providing lunch, a different pastor will read a relevant scripture connected to the prayer topic, then a pastor will pray over the three topics, country, community and church,” Rev. Ken Ansell, Alliance president, said.
