Free summer lunch program is underway

Feed Rockdale, a new free summer lunch program designed to feed any child from age 1-18 on the east side of Rockdale, has begun, according to Danyelle Higginbotham, spokesperson.

“During these seven weeks between the end of summer school and the beginning of regular classes, Feed Rockdale will provide lunches for the children Monday through Friday,” she said.

Monday through Thursday lunches will be delivered to each house that is registered.

Friday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., there will be games, children’s activities, and lunch on the lawn of First Baptist Church.

“Texas Burger has graciously offered to donate burgers for the registered children on this day,” said.

Higginbotham said the program covers only children on the east side in its fi rst year.

“Our resources and man power is limited. Our goal is to extend the program to all of Rockdale next year. However, we did not want to take on more than we were able to handle,” Higginbotham said.

To register a child for lunches or for more information, visit the “Feed Rockdale” Facebook page or call First Baptist Church at 512-446-5375.

The program ends Aug. 17.
