Thorndale council discusses city budget
The City of Thorndale was to have held a public hearing on the city’s budget for fiscal year 2020-21 on Sept. 16.
The Thorndale City Council was to have met after the public hearing to discuss and take action on adopting a tax rate of 72.81 cents for the fiscal year 2020-21.
The council also had plans to both amend and adopt a budget for the coming fiscal year.
Commissioners hear from ex-COVID patient
CAMERON—Milam County Commissioners—and those following on Facebook—viewed a video which included a recap of COVID-19’s impact from a county official who has recovered from the potentially-deadly virus.
Deputy Sheriff Randy Rodriguez, who serves a court bailiff, recounted the severity of the illness. A number of local officials and volunteers were also featured.

Commissioners also handed out awards to persons who volunteered work and materials to make masks during the pandemic.
Young praised the efforts of school personnel whom he said are helping keep infections in Milam schools as low as possible.
In other business, commissioners heard Young report Milam County continues to file paperwork connected with the county’s quest to land a $1.7-million grant to renovate part of the former Central Texas Hospital for urgent care and COVID testing.
Alcoa retirees cancel September meeting
The September meeting of Rockdale Alcoa retirees has been canceled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
That meeting would have been held on Sept. 17, according to Doug Williams, president of Rockdale Alcoa retirees.
“We are going to try and have the December meeting, scheduled for Dec. 17,” Williams said.
Groundwater group set to meet Friday
MILANO—Groundwater Management Area 12 will meet at 10 a.m. Friday at the Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District headquarters.
Several items are on the agenda including adopting Desired Future Conditions on environmental impacts on spring flow and other interactions between groundwater and surface water, and impact on interests and rights in private property, including ownership and the rights of management area landowners and their lessees.
City of Thorndale holds council meeting Sept. 9
Thorndale City Council members voted to create the position of assistant city manager at its meeting Sept. 9.
The members approved a variance for street closures and the noise nuisance ordinance for the Chamber of Commerce. Variances are for the chamber’s car show in October and the Christmas Parade in December.
Members also voted to hire an equipment operator for the city.
