No COVID cases for Thorndale ISD so far
THORNDALE—Thorndale ISD School Nurse Sara Sanders told school trustees “things are going well” in the district regarding COVID-19 so far.
Sanders addressed the board during a Sept. 14 regular session.
She reported that there have been no positive cases of students or staff so far this school year,
Ivy informed the board that the district’s asynchronous instruction plan (virtual learning), will be sent to Texas Education Agency by Oct. 1.
Technology Director Deby Leschber told the board the Go Guardian would be as the district’s primary internet filter, but would also give teachers and parents the ability to see what their students are doing on the Chromebook in real time.
Ivy said that there may be a special meeting in the next few weeks to determine what the educational schedule will look like for the rest of the year.
American Legion seeks literacy program funds
American Legion Carlyle Post 358 is collecting funds for the Toys for Tots Literacy Program.

Thorndale Chamber car show slated for Oct. 3rd
Cars of all kinds will vis it Thorndale Oct. 3 when the annual Chamber of Commerce’s 11th annual Car Show rolls into town.
“We typically get 50 to 60 cars in the show,” said Allen Hejl, who is the car show coordinator and one of the directors of the chamber. “We have been constrained this year (because of COVID-19), but we are hoping people will still come out (with precautions in place). People are wanting to get out now.”
In addition to the vehicles, there will be food and arts-and-crafts vendors on the grounds.
Vehicle registration begins at 8 a.m. with judging from 10 to noon. Trophy presentation is schedule to start at 1 p.m.
There is still time to enter a car in the annual show with registration at $20 in advance and $25 the day of the event.

Thorndale Council sets final vote on budget
THORNDALE—The City of Thorndale was to have met Wednesday (Sept. 23) for a final vote on the fiscal year 2020-21, street closings for the Chamber’s Oct. 3 car show, discussion of funding options for a new fire station and discussion of transferring funds into the city’s fire truck fund.
