RISD adds junior, high school students to plan
Since the first of October all Rockdale Junior High and Rockdale High School students have been able to eat breakfast and lunch free at the schools, according to a news release from Rockdale Independent School District.
Elementary and intermediate students have enjoyed this option since last year. The addition of the junior and high schools was made possible through additional funding provided by the USDA.
RISD students will be able to eat free breakfasts and lunches at their school through Dec. 31, or until the state funding runs out. The Food Service department will not issue refunds for money on student lunch accounts until the end of the 2020/2021 school year. Those funds can still be used for food items not covered under the free program.
RCS Food Pantry to be open Oct. 8-9, 22-23
The Rockdale Christian Services food pantry will be open the second and fourth Thursday and Friday of October from 10 a.m. to noon (Oct. 8, 9, 22 and 23).
The food pantry is modifying its distribution method.
On Oct. 8 only one client at a time will be allowed into the pantry. Once inside, there will be a window on the left with a chair in front of it. Sit down and someone will sign the client in. The client will then take a voucher over to where there will be a curtain and someone will hand out the food there.
The pantry will soon have an LED sign on the outside window. Once the sign is in place, it will tell the next person in line when to enter the pantry. In the meantime clients are asked to be aware of who is entering and exiting the pantry so that there is only one in the pantry at a time with no cutting in line.
