RCS Food Pantry to be open Oct. 22nd-23rd

The Rockdale Christian Services food pantry will be open the second and fourth Thursday and Friday of October from 10 a.m. to noon including Oct. 22 and 23.

Only one client at a time will be allowed into the pantry. Once inside, there will be a window on the left with a chair in front of it. Sit down and someone will sign the client in. The client will then take a voucher over to where there will be a curtain and someone will hand out the food there.

The pantry will soon have an LED sign on the outside window. Once the sign is in place, it will tell the next person in line when to enter the pantry. In the meantime clients are asked to be aware of who is entering and exiting the pantry so that there is only one in the pantry at a time with no cutting in line.

Bars can now open at 50 percent capacity

Milam County Judge Steve Young signed an order Oct. 9 which will allow the bars in the county to reopen at 12 a.m. on Oct. 14 at 50percent capacity.

On Oct. 7, Gov. Greg Abbott issued an executive order to open bars and similar establishments at up to 50percent capacity in conjunction with county officials. In hospital regions with low COVID-19 hospitalizations, county judges were able to opt their county into opening bars beginning Oct. 14, provided they assist in enforcing health protocols.

Milam County is not in a high hospitalization area, so Young signed the order for Milam.

The governor’s executive order also increases the occupancy levels for all business establishments other than bars to 75%.

“Even as more businesses have opened and students return to school, Texans have shown we can contain the spread of COVID-19,” said Gov. Abbott.

“Thanks to Texans following the best health practices, our state is prepared for additional openings, including bars.

“Working with industry leaders and our team of medical experts, the state of Texas has now developed strategies to safely open bars under certain health protocols. To ensure bars open safely, these openings will be done in conjunction with county officials.

“County judges will be able to opt their county into opening bars so long as they assist in enforcing the health protocols. Opening bars does not mean that COVID-19 is no longer a threat, and most Texans are still susceptible to the virus.

“As bars and similar businesses begin to open, we all must remain vigilant and show personal responsibility to protect ourselves and our loved ones.”
