Free summer lunch program continues
Feed Rockdale, a new free summer lunch program designed to feed any child from age 1-18 on the east side of Rockdale, continues according to Danyelle Higginbotham, spokesperson.
Monday through Thursday lunches will be delivered to each house that is registered.
Friday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., there will be games, children’s activities, and lunch on the lawn of First Baptist Church.

The program ends Aug. 17.
Steelworkers slate annual picnic Aug. 4th
United Steelworkers of America Local 4895 will continue a summer tradition by hosting its annual picnic.
The get-together is set for 11:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. at The Ranch, 415 West US 79.
David Edmonds, spokesperson and former Local 4895 president, said a barbecue lunch will be served.
Important summer dates for RHS Band
The Rockdale High School Big Blue Band program is gearing up for another school term, beginning with marching season, and here are important summer dates, according to Adrian Acevedo, director:
• Color Guard Camp—July 16-18, Monday through Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., band hall.
• Full Band Summer Band Camp—July 23-Aug. 6, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., band hall/ practice field.
• Full Band Summer Band Camp—Aug. 7-16, 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., band hall/ practice field.
• Marching Band Parent Meeting—Aug. 7, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., band hall.
P&Z board set to meet Tuesday at City Hall
The Rockdale Planning & Zoning Board will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday (July 17) at City Hall.
City Manager Chris Whittaker said the board will conduct a workshop to discuss zoning map and districts and act on a request for a zoning variance.
Thorndale City Council set to meet Wednesday
THORNDALE—The Thorndale City Council was to have met in regular session at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday (July 11) at Thorndale City Hall.
Agenda items, according to City Secretary Stacy Irwin, included construction of a Little League field in City Park and hiring of police officers.
Brown Santa tourney July 28 in Cameron
The annual Milam County Sheriff’s Department Brown Santa Golf Tourney is set for Saturday, July 28, at the Cameron Country club.
Deputy John Mendoza said the five-man scramble tourney has tee times at 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Food, drinks, and awards will be provided, Mendoza said.
Brown Santa provides toys at Christmas for needy children in Milam County.
