School board canvasses General Election results
The Rockdale ISD School Board canvassed the results of the Nov. 3, 2020 General Election for the board of trustees at the Nov. 16 meeting.
The official results of the election as provided to the district by the Milam County Clerk’s Office are:
• RISD Board of Trustees, Place 6 – 2,957 total votes
Michael Whitsel: 78 absentee votes, 1,097 early votes, 193 Election Day votes, 1,368 total votes;
Janice Keen: 155 absentee votes, 1,252 early votes, 182 Election Day votes, 1,589 total votes.
• RISD Board of Trustees, Place 7 – 2,667 total votes
Julia Cardona: 197 absentee votes, 2,114 early votes, 356 Election Day votes.
After the canvas and approval, Dyan Shelander, executive assistant to the superintendent, gave the oath of office to Keen and Cardona.
District recognizes retired employees
The Rockdale Independent School District board of trustees recognized several employees who retired at the end of the 2019-20 school year.
Those honored were:
• Mickie Daniels, 21 years of service in education, all with Rockdale ISD.
• Arthur “Art” Free, 24 years of service in education, all with Rockdale ISD.
• Donna Scruggs, 34 years of service in education, 26. with Rockdale ISD
• Jean Griffin, 19 years of service in education, 4 with Rockdale ISD, was not present for the ceremony.
RISD names board officers at meeting
The Rockdale Independent School District board selected new officers at the meeting Nov. 16
Troy Zinn will remain as president.
Charles Miles was named vice president and Wenda Dyer will continue as secretary.
