Thorndale ISD gives all staffers bonuses

He cited seeing nearly every teacher working from early morning to late at night and sometimes all day Saturdays and Sundays.

Ivy said he wanted the board to do something to show appreciation to the staff.

The board looked at options and decided to approve $1,750 for all exempt and professional staffers, $750 for all full-time hourly staffer sand $500 for all part-time staff.

The board also approved a budget amendment of $152,000 to allow for the stipends to be paid.

Ag board now taking member applications

The chief appraiser is taking applications for a new member to fill a vacancy on the agricultural advisory board to act as an adviser to the chief appraiser on the valuation and use of agricultural land.

Applicants should be local producers who have a working knowledge of current land lease prices and shares, cattle prices, crop prices and expenses.

Applications are available on the district’s website at www. milamad.org and at the Milam Appraisal District office at 120 N. Houston in Cameron.

Hearing planned for water district

The Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District will hold a public hearing Jan. 12 at 5:30 p.m. to get public comments on the pro-posed Desired Future Conditions for the area aquifers that were recently adopted by Groundwater Management Area 8 under 36.108, Texas Water Code.

The hearing is at the district’s office at 310 E Ave. C in Milano.

15th Oney Toy Run set for Saturday

The 15th annual Buddy Oney Toy Run will take place Saturday at The Ranch at 415 W. US 79 in Rockdale.

The annual ride, in memory of the late Buddy Oney, benefits the needy children of Milam County by giving 100 percent of the proceeds to The Milam County Child Protective Services board, Milam County Brown Santa Program, Thorndale Cares and The Rockdale Christmas Roundup.

Through its 14-year history the toy run has raised a little over $86,000 for these organizations that serve the less fortunate children of Rockdale and the rest of Milam County.

Registration begins at 9 a.m. with the first bike out at 11 a.m.

The ride fee is $20 for rider and $25 with a passenger or a new toy valued at $25.

The fee includes food after the ride for all participants.

Girl Scouts screening ‘Elf’ for new members

The Milam County Girl Scouts is showing the moving “Elf” at the Kay Theater, 350 Main St. in Rockdale, at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Girls are invited to come by and register to become Girl Scouts, and also get free popcorn, soda and see the movie.

There are Girl Scout troops in every town in Milam County. The scout groups meet in person and virtually.

Place of Hope looking for some volunteers

Place of Hope is looking for volunteers to teach clients some of these skills such as crocheting, sewing, cake decorating and baking cookies.

There are classes each month in addition to classes on baby care.

Call the office at 512-446-2220 Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., if you would like to volunteer.

Ornaments available for donation of $10

Place of Hope has ornaments available for a suggested donation of $10 each.

They could be a gift for someone or something for the Christmas tree.
