Theater group to do holiday radio show

Milam Community Theater will play the past, present and future, and Ebenezer Scrooge via radio in a version of Charles Dicken’s “The Christmas Carol” adapted by Frederick Garrigus.

Theater members hope this new endeavor will become a reoccurring one during the Christmas season.

The broadcasts are Dec. 21 at 6 p.m. on KMIL 105.1, and on Dec. 22 at 6 p.m. on KRXT 98.5.

Diabetics can eat right for the holidays

Living with pre-diabetes or diabetes can sometimes result in wondering what to do with food at gatherings around this time of year. Should you enjoy in bliss or restrict yourself? Well, there is a balance between these options.

• Remember to enjoy the season. You can still prepare for good food choices and participate in gatherings.

• Does it spark joy? Take time to think about the foods you enjoy the most. Choose a food which you have been looking forward to.

• Check-in with your body. When you sit down for a meal, take a moment to assess your hunger level? Choose smaller portions first then assess whether or not you feel satisfied.

• Divide your plate and portion to accommodate your carbohydrate choices. Wondering if you use your carbohydrate choices for the mashed potatoes or the dressing? If you have three carbohydrate choices for a meal, look at the portion size and make it work for your plate.

• Be mindful of how you fill your plate. Use the diabetes healthy plate model. Fill 1/2 of your plate with nonstarchy vegetables, 1/4 lean protein, 1/4 starchy foods, 1 serving of fruit, and 1 serving of dairy. In total it is about 3 carbohydrate choices which can help you keep to your plan without pulling out measuring cups.
