Rockdale cheerleaders, mascot picked at tryouts

The cheerleaders for 2021-22 Rockdale High School were selected Wednesday after tryouts where the judges determined the new members for the varsity and junior varsity squads.

The judges were members of the National Cheerleader Association.

The candidates were judged on their overall tryout scores, which included tumbling skills, spirit, movement and jumps along with academic, behavior, discipline and teacher evaluation.

The varsity squad will be Madalynne Brinkmann, Kinley Galvan, Talayeh Green, Anna Harris, Jacie Hartley, Avery Hendrix, Makailah Huff, Zanae McBride, Savannah Molina, Tatiana Olivares, Alyzza Varela, who is the captain, and Taytum Young.

The junior varsity squad members are Layla Barrera, Nicole Collins, Tori Deardeuff, Molly Moody, Brandilyn Musto, Scarlett Pantaleon, Aliana Ramos and Saige Robertson.

Piper Pounders will again play the mascot making this her fourth year in a row to represent the school as the mascot.

Public school week

Rockdale ISD will celebrate Texas Public Schools Week next week. Each campus has numerous activities including dress-up days, virtual readers in classrooms, special programs for students and more.
