Guide gives an overview of taxes
The Texas Comptroller’s office recently released an update to A Field Guide to the Taxes of Texas, a periodic report providing an overview of Texas’ major state taxes.
Every year, the state collects billions in state taxes and fees, federal receipts and other sources of revenue. These funds are used to pay for all of the responsibilities of state government, including the education of more than 5 million public school students and the provision of health insurance for more than 4 million low-income Texans.
In the guide readers can:
• Learn how major taxes have contributed to state revenue during the past 10 years.
• See future revenue estimates, exemption value estimates and tax allocations.
• Connect to other in-depth resources about state taxes and finances.

UT, A&M raise over $200,000 for students
Texas A&M University and The University of Texas at Austin announced the conclusion of the “Maroon and Orange: Texas Tough” campaign with a total of $235,021 raised to benefit students from both schools who were affected by the freeze that swept the state last month.
Texas A&M Student Body President Eric Mendoza worked with UT Student Government President Anagha Kikkeri, to launch the 12-day crowd-funding effort, saying Aggie and Longhorn students alike were affected by the winter storm that caused widespread power outages and other damage estimated to have cost the state $90 billion in losses.
“The strength of our Aggie family shines best when called to action, this time was no different,” Mendoza said. “I want to thank the hundreds of Aggies who answered our call in direct support of current students in need. Our ability to partner with UT only helped to further highlight the need, and I am so pleased with the overall impact this has created for Texas students— Aggies and Longhorns alike.”
