Downtown Thorndale to be in zombie show
The AMC production company wrapped up filming scenes of “Fear the Walking Dead” Saturday in Thorndale.
The network had used Main Street for footage that will be used in upcoming episodes of the television show. AMC would not say what episode the Thorndale scenes will be in or when it might air.
RISD seeks nominations for alumni awards
The Rockdale ISD Distinguished Alumni Awards Program, which began in 2019, was created to recognize and honor all former graduates of the Rockdale Independent School District, Rockdale High School and Aycock High School, whose achievements, strengths of character and citizenship serve as models to inspire and challenge today’s students.
Any person may submit a nomination for consideration to the district’s Awards Committee.
Nominations will be accepted until 4 p.m. on May 31, in odd-numbered years. Awards for alumni will be given for achievement in various fields of service including, but not limited to: fine arts, performing arts, business, education, entertainment, law, medicine, military, philanthropy, politics, public service, religion, scholarship and science.

RVFD fundraiser tickets now on sale
Tickets for the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department’s annual fund raising night at the KC Hall are now on sale.
The fundraiser is set for May 15.

Street Ministries offering free classes
This month Street Ministries will start community how-to classes at it building on Main Street in Rockdale.
The following dates and topics are on schedule. The classes are from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at 225 N. Main.

• May 18 — Financial Planning with Jason Jenkins of Edward Jones.

Yard of the Month looking for contenders
Spring is upon us and Rockdale Earth Day is looking for yards in the community to consider for “Yard of the Month.”

Milam County teachers who are looking to get their hands dirty, have fun and earn professional development credit this summer are urged to apply to Texas Farm Bureau’s Summer Agriculture Institute.
