Railroad museum has new hours for summer

The Milam County Railroad Museum and Old Town Cameron will kick off new hours in June. The new hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Also Junior Engineers meet every Saturday from 10 until 12-noon to help run trains on the Old Town Cameron model and our training layout. If you are between the age of 8 and 18, come to the museum for a short training course to become a junior engineer.

Thorndale hires new chief of police for force

Thorndale has a new police chief. Scott Roberson, who had been serving as the interim chief, since the resignation of Mark Birchard, was named to the post by the City Council at the May 12 meeting.

The council also approved Caden Gillespie as the assistant city administrator.

The votes in the May 1 election were canvassed. The vote returned incumbent Jared Melde and brought back Gerald Niemtsch, who has previously served on the council and as mayor. George Galbreath was unopposed for mayor. Councilman Steven Zuehlke was appointed mayor pro tem.
