Temple College names spring honor students

Here are area students named to either the president’s honor list or the vice president’s honor list. Students on the president’s list had to have a 4.0 in at least nine of semester credit hours, while those on the vice president’s list had to have at least nine semester credit hours and earn a 3.5 grade point average.

American Legion plans crawfish, shrimp boil

American Legion Carlyle Post 358 is set to have a Crawfish and Shrimp Boil on Sunday beginning at 2 p.m. until sold out.

Meals are take-out or sit down at a table under the trees.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased from American Legion members or by calling 512-446-2996 or 408-472-5272. Veggie and sausage plates,

Veggie and sausage plates, as well as drinks, will be available.

American Legion plans Sunday benefit for Starr

American Legion Carlyle Post 358 in Rockdale will have a “Turkey Shoot” on Sunday at 2534 N. FM 487.

This event is to benefit Charles Starr, someone who has helped many people in this area and who now needs help.

Gates will open at 11 a.m. and competition is to begin at noon. The cost is $5 per round and the winner of each round gets 50% of the take with the rest going to Starr.

There will also be a “stretch” drawing for a Yildez TK-36 410 shotgun. The winning ticket for the shotgun will be drawn at the end of the Turkey Shoot.

Thorndale seeks funds to upgrade weight room

Thorndale High School has a Snap account to raise money for a weight room at the high school for Bulldogs athletes.

The goal is to raise $800 toward the cost to properly outfit a weight room and replace outdated equipment.

Meeting planned for young farmers, ranchers

People, ages 18 to 35, with an interest in agriculture have the opportunity to learn more about the Texas Farm Bureau’s Young Farmer and Rancher program June 19 in Lampasas.

The District 8, of which Milam County is a part, will hold a Young Farmer and Rancher meeting on that date at Putters & Gutters on 2341 US 281.

There will be bowling, mini-golf and food as part of the educational program meeting from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
