Health screenings coming to Patterson
Residents living in and around the Rockdale areas can learn about their risk for cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, diabetes and other chronic, serious conditions with screenings by Life Line Screening next month in the George Hill Patterson Community Center
The screenings will check for the following things:
• The level of plaque buildup in your arteries, related to risk for cardiovascular disease, stroke and overall vascular health.
• HDL and LDL Cholesterol levels.
• Diabetes risk.
• Bone density as a risk for possible osteoporosis.
• Kidney and thyroid function, and more.
Consultants will be there to tailor packages for each individual.

Historic train to be in Hearne on Aug. 15
The Union Pacific’s 1,200,000-pound, 132-foot long steam engine called Big Boy No. 4014 will stop in Hearne on Aug. 15.
For those who would like a look at a part of U.S. transportation history head over to the train depot in Hearne that day.

Garrison heading to medical school
Ryan Garrison of Lexington has been accepted into the Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine program and is on track to complete his degree of doctor of Osteopathic Medicine in 2025 from the institution’s branch in Conroe.
Temple Library to host book sale Sept. 1-4
The Friends of the Temple Public Library will hold its annual Labor Day Used Book Sale starting Sept. 1 and continue through Sept. 4.
The library is in down town Temple at 100 W. Adams Ave.
The hours are Sept. 1 and 2 from 10 a.m. to – 6 p.m., and Sept. 3 and 4 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
There will be a variety of used books, both bound and audio; VHS tapes; CDs; and DVDs with most items costing $1 to $2.

Hospital board meeting on budget is Aug. 23
Due to scheduling conflicts, the hospital district’s meeting has been rescheduled for 6 p.m., Aug. 23 in the hospital board room to adopt the proposed tax rate.
