Drug awareness for
Tuesday program
The Texas A&M Agri-Life Extension Service, and the Rockdale ISD, are partnering to host an Alcohol & Drug Trends Awareness program at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, in the Rockdale Intermediate School cafeteria.
The special presentation will follow the Rockdale P-TO meeting scheduled for that evening.
All parents and guardians are invited to attend.
Allen Sanders, RISD community relations director, said the program will provide a chance for “parents to become aware of the many alcohol and drug trends facing our youth today and to recognize the signs of alcohol and drug-related problems facing them.”
Fall Fest scheduled
for Saturday in Davilla
DAVILLA—The annual Davilla Community Fall Fest is set for 5 to 9 p.m. Oct. 6 at the center, 20803 North FM 487.
Events include many games, lots of food, a silent auction and a fund raiser for a handmade Texas flag throw quilt, wooden bench and many other items.
Benefit ahead for brain tumor patient Oct. 28
A benefit for Roxli Doss—10-year-old granddaughter of James and Denice Doss, and daughter of Scott and Gena Doss—is set for 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 28 at the KC Hall.
Barbecue plates will be sold beginning at 11 a.m.
There’s a live auction at 1 p.m. and rolling silent auction throughout the day.
Activities also include a washer tourney, Roxli’s jewelery “go fish” and music by the Communities in Concert Band.

State senator under
investigation by UT
State Sen. Charles Schwertner, whose district includes Milam and five other counties, is under investigation by the University of Texas at Austin after a UT grad student charged he sent her a sexually explicit photo and text.
Schwertner (R-Georgetown) firmly denies the accusation.
Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick has said the Texas Senate will await the results of the investigation before discussing the situation.
Tuesday deadline for
Nov. 6 election signup
Tuesday is the final day to register to vote before the Nov. 6 general election.
Early voting begins Oct. 22 and concludes Nov. 2.

MDD sets workshop,
meeting for Thursday
The Rockdale Municipal Development District will meet in workshop session and in regular session beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday in the district’s downtown headquarters.
Agenda items include a workshop to discuss existing project and other issues.
Action cannot be taken in a workshop session.
Also on the agenda are two executive sessions.
Minerva VFD to host
pancake meal Tuesday
MINERVA—The Minerva Volunteer Fire Department will host a pancake supper from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in the Minerva Community Center.
The meal is a fund raise to assist the MVFD to purchase new bunker gear for each firefighter, a total cost of $7,000. Its current gear was purchased in 1992.
The MVFD has received donations of $3,500 and is raising the remainder of the needed funds.

The fall marching contest schedule for the Rockdale High School Big Blue Band has been released by Adrian Acevedo as follows:
• Thursday, Oct. 11—Crusader Marching Band Invitational at UMHB Crusader Stadium (905 University Drive, Belton), performance at 10:45 a.m.
• Saturday, Oct. 13—Buccaneer Marching Festival at Brenham ISD Stadium (1600 East Tom Green Street, Brenham), performance at 10 a.m.
• Saturday, Oct. 20—UIL Region Marching Contest Giddings ISD Stadium (2337 North Main, Giddings), performance at 3:30 p.m.
