ET free on Saturday
Rockdale’s Kay Theatre is showing one of the all-time classic films at 4 p.m. Saturday.
And it’s free.
“ET: The Extra Terrestrial” will be screened at the Kay, a fully-restored 1940s-era facility at the corner of Davilla and Main.
Considered one of the greatest films ever made, and perhaps the best science fiction movie ever made, ET was directed by Steven Spielberg and was the highest-grossing movie of the 1980s.
It was released in 1982.
Historical Society chili dinner Nov. 10 at park
The Rockdale Historical Society’s annual chili dinner is set for Saturday, Nov. 10 at the New Salem Clubhouse in Fair Park.
Hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. or until sold out.
Desserts will be available and there will be a silent auction during the meal.
Appraisal district seeks candidates for ag board
CAMERON—The Milam Appraisal District is accepting applications for local ag producers who are interested in serving on its Agricultural Advisory Board.
Applicants must be a resident of Milam County and must own land that qualifies for agricultural valuation.
The board meets once a year typically in December, according to Chief Appraiser Dyann White.
She said the district is looking to appoint two or more members to serve a two-year term. Members are not entitle to compensation.
The board of directors will show consent of appointment by a vote at their November meeting.
Persons interested in serving are requested to complete an application which can be found on the AD’s website, www.milamad.org or at the district office, located at 120 N. Houston, Cameron, TX 76520.
Big Blue Band earns
‘Superior’ rating
The Rockdale High School Big Blue Band received the UIL’s highest rating at the UIL Region 26/18 Marching Contest Saturday.
Competing at Buffalo Stadium, Giddings, the band earned a Division I (Superior) rating from the judges.
“We are very proud of our students for achieving this level of performance through their hard work and dedication,” director Adrian Acevedo said.
Commissioners asked
for ‘noise ordinance’
CAMERON—A Milam County resident asked commissioners to consider a noise ordinance during commissioners’ Monday meeting.
Commissioners took no action on the non-agenda item.
Also on Monday, commissioners appointed Jennifer Epperson Moran, Lekethia (Kiki) Sims and Rebecca (Becky) Ferrara to the Milam County Child Protective Services Board.
They replace Monique Gebhart and Jessica Janak who have rotated off the board.
Paranormal program
Thursday at library
Just in time for Halloween, there will be a program on the paranormal Thursday at the city library.
Rockdale native Greg Lawson will present the free program at 6 p.m.
It’s Rockdale native Lawson’s second program at the library. He will also sign books. Lawson is an author and an established expert and investigator of paranormal phenomena.
Buddy Oney Run set
Dec. 1st at The Ranch
Bad to the Bone Riders Buddy Oney Toy Run is set for Dec. 1 at The Ranch.
Proceeds go to Milam County Child Protective Brown Santa, Thorndale Cares and Rockdale Christmas Roundup.
In its first 12 years, the run has raised just over $72,000 for the organizations.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. with first bike out at
11. Fee is $20 for riders, and $25 with a passenger, or a new toy valued at $25. Fee does include food after ride for all participants.
Long sleeve T-shirts are pre-order only for $25, with an order deadline of Nov. 5, at (512)-698-2784.
Short sleeve ride shirts are $20 on ride day. Last bike in will be at 4:30 p.m,
A meal, provided by Brookshire Brothers of Rockdale and prepared by Brady’s Pest Control and crew, will be served.
